John, Paul, George & Ben by Lane Smith

This book is an interesting take on a Biography of John Hancock, Paul Revere, George Washington, Ben Franklin, and Tom Jefferson (who is not in the title, probably because he is, “Annoyingly independent and hardly ever around.” It is a very funny book that first introduces each of the historical figures in a comedic, yet factual, manner, and then goes on to cleverly discussing how they together played key parts in the American Revolution. At the very end of the book, the author puts in a page entitled “Taking Liberties” where the author is sure to set straight any misconceptions that the somewhat embellished book may have caused. It is a great book for reinforcing some of the ideas studied in the Revolutionary War in a lighthearted yet educational manner. It is yet another great book to use to integrate social studies and literature in the classroom.
